Research digest · indie software founders

What launched that is worth a weekday morning.

Founder Signal is a weekday research digest of high-signal AI tool launches. Each issue names a few tools, says what they actually do, and whether they help if you are a one- or two-person shop. No twenty-link roundups. No affiliate fog.

Cadence
Weekdays. Monday–Friday. Nothing on weekends. If Quality Gate has not signed off, the issue does not send.

DeepSeek Harness (dsh)

DeepSeek published an MIT-licensed agent runtime in developer preview: models, tools, skills, sessions, sandboxes, storage, loops, scheduling, and the UI are plugins you swap in config. Agent = Model + Harness. Quick start: npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web. The GitHub repo was created 13 Aug; latest pre-release v0.1.0-rc.8 landed 19 Aug. As of 20 Aug GitHub shows 167,331 stars.

For a solo founder paying out of pocket: run a coding-agent loop on a cheap DeepSeek or OpenAI-compatible model instead of starting another harness. Breaking changes are expected — experiment-grade, not a production bet.

Issue 001 · three leads

  1. Ledgerline — maps Stripe and bank feeds to your chart of accounts. Mapping lives in git.
  2. Patchwork — changelog and migration notes from merged PRs. Action plus CLI.
  3. Clerkroom — local-first call recorder. Tickets from a YAML schema you own.

For the jobs a solo founder still does by hand: books, release notes, customer calls.

Issue 002 · three leads

  1. Shoreline — Stripe webhook handlers from the events you actually enabled.
  2. Typeforge — runtime type contracts from production traffic; CI fails on drift.
  3. Draftkiln — on-brand copy from a style lockfile. CLI in, markdown out.

Aimed at the parts of a small product that rot first: money paths, types, voice.

Issue 003 · three leads

  1. Harborlog — error grouping that proposes the smallest fix PR, as a diff.
  2. Relicase — a failed user session becomes a failing Playwright or Cypress test.
  3. Splitrail — feature flags with suggested rollback criteria and a deploy-free kill switch.

Reliability tools that assume you do not have an on-call rotation.
